II. How to Encourage Yourself
1. Remember God’s Faithfulness David reminded himself of all that God had done for him in the past. He remembered how God delivered him from the hand of Goliath, how God anointed him to be king, and how God’s presence had never left him. Sometimes, we need to look back on what God has already done to find he strength for the battles we face today.
- Psalm 77:11
2. Seek God’s Presence David didn’t just rely on his own strength or wisdom. He sought God’s guidance. In verse 8, David inquires of the Lord, asking if he should pursue the enemy.
- Isaiah 40:31 (KJV):
- When we seek God in prayer, when we wait on Him, we will be renewed in strength.
3. Declare God’s Promises Over Your Life David knew God’s promises. He knew that God had anointed him for a purpose and that no trial could stop what God had already spoken. In the same way, we need to remind ourselves of God’s
promises in His Word.
- Isaiah 38:1-4
- Romans 8:28 (NIV)
